Camp Bestival 2017 – Lulworth Castle Dorset

Camp Bestival

ARGHHHH! I’m so excited! We are official ambassadors for Camp Bestival again this year, and the line up looks UH-MAZ-ING.

If you haven’t heard of it (where have you been?) it’s a massive (huge!) family festival set in the grounds of Lulworth Castle in Dorset, over 4 days and it is just a full on fun fest.

I love an excuse to cover myself in glitter, wear crazy face paints and drink alcohol on the grass listening to music. I mean, come on, what’s not to love! Plus, my kids are a bit (lot!) like their mother, in that they love music, glitter, sequins and being around people who just love to be crazy. After all, I gave birth to them!

The list of things we want to see, hear and do this year are eclectic to say the least.

Camp Bestival

Performing, among all of the acts are: Madness, Brian Wilson Presents, Mark Ronson, All Saints, Anne-Marie, Lightening Seeds, Reverend and the Makers and Right Said Fred. RIGHT SAID FRED people!!! Sing it with me, “I’m too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt so sexy it hurts…..” You’re welcome.

For the kids, Dick and Dom, Mr Tumble, School of Rock the Musical and Cirque Bijou and, for the writers, there is SO much good stuff. How to write a novel from a beach hut with Lucy Clarke, the Scummy Mummies, Literary Ginstitute and the Secret Mummies Wine Club. Reginald D Hunter is there, which will please the husband immensely.

Plus, a whole load of other exciting events and sessions to fill every single need! I’m especially looking forward to the Morning Mindfulness, a parents guide to chilling out. Needed.

All of that, and more, plus the most incredible atmosphere and freedom for kids to really have fun and get involved, it’s such an incredible weekend. I cannot wait. Even me, the woman who hates camping and gets a bit iffy about the lack of washing facilities – that’s how much I love it!

Camp Bestival

We may have already started planning our face painting efforts, we have our priorities straight here, for H & I, it will be glitter everything. Eyes, face, lips, hair. Hopefully the glitter will detract from the fact that we haven’t washed our hair in 4 days. For the boys, neon face paints. My boy is not shy when it comes to wanting all the paints on his mush, so we’re storing up images to copy once we’re there. There may also be a sequinned bum bag involved…… If you can’t wear a sequinned bum bag at Camp Bestival then when can you?

And, imagine the nails!! ALL THE GLITTER PLEASE!

Obviously, apart from a truck load of glitter we need other essentials, like baby wipes, milk, bread, gin, but we’re not the best at packing for camping, last time we managed to leave ALL of our fridge stuff at home. So there was no early morning cup of tea for us. Oh no. Not until we had walked all the way into the centre. This time I am getting prepared. I am making a list.
