Can you believe the original Toy Story came out in 1996?! That is 21 years ago, before the hubs and I even knew each other and waaaaay before my two were even thought about. Not even fairy dust.
Jeez, I was fifteen. Way to make me feel old Buzz & Woody. Thanks.
But, ask anyone, around in 1996 or not, if they’ve heard of Toy Story and you can bet your bottom cowboy and spaceman dollar that they have. And they love it. Plus, if I were to say “To infinity, and beyond…..!” You’d know exactly what I was talking about. And, if you’re anything like me, you’ll do it in a really cool voice that sounds exactly like Buzz.
We have a lot of movie nights here, we love getting into our pjs, onto the sofa and spending the evening watching films. It’s mostly a family affair, because it gets them both off of their devices (and us, to be honest!) but sometimes, when we’re not too knackered, the bloke and I find a good action/comedy and do it sans kids. Rock and roll.
So, with that in mind, we decided to have a little, old school, Toy Story movie night with our favourite characters, brand new, film size Woody & Buzz from Thinkway Toys some popcorn and a lot of sweets, courtesy of B&M Stores. Obviously, with the kids this time. Well, actually just one of them, the teenager was out, but we did save her some of the movie night sweets. We’re good like that.
I don’t know if it’s the fact that it’s about a group of toys who make friendships, that we watch the kids grow up, or just because it takes us back to when we were kids and convinced our toys had a life of their own when we weren’t around, but Toy Story is just such an iconic, feel good film.
Because Andy is the same age as C in the original film, (or maybe because I’m hormonal), I was really feeling the emotions, despite seeing it a million times! Since becoming a mum, I can’t watch things about people being left out, or lost, or alone without crying like a baby….. WAHHHH! I mean, sobbing at animated films is what happens when you birth people, why are we not warned about that beforehand!? Then there is the whole moving house situation, it’s just an emotional film man!!
C was a MASSIVE Buzz fan when he was younger, we have a lot of fancy dress costumes (that no longer fit him sadly, or I know he would be wearing them right now!) and we even have a Build a Bear sausage dog that got dressed in a Buzz outfit, oh yes! So for C, watching the film reminded him how much he loves the characters, and we’ve been looking for all the old toys and teddy’s since! There is a giant Rex somewhere in the loft….! Can you reminisce about being young when you’re only 8 years old?
Toy Story is one of those films that, I think, will never get old, no matter how many times you watch it. It doesn’t look dated, or get boring. It captivates new viewers, little kiddies are watching it for the first time, and has huge fans that have seen it a million times, and would still watch it again in a second.
Toy Story 4
All fans, old and new are so happy that there will be a brand new Toy Story 4 coming out in 2019! Uh huh, we’ll see Woody and Buzz going on another adventure, and, even though C will be 10 (WHAT??!) I guarantee we will be at the cinema, laughing and crying along with some of the most famous film characters ever created!
You can follow Thinkway Toys on Twitter and Facebook and B&M Stores on Facebook and Twitter – and, speaking of Twitter, make sure you join us over there on Tuesday 27th June from 1pm-2.30 for a little Twitter Party that will be taking place, we will have lots of B&M vouchers up for grabs for people who join in with the chatter, all Toy Story based of course!
