I’ve been seeing HelloFresh boxes all over the place recently, all of my favourite bloggers and Instagrammers seemed to be using them, so when they got in touch and asked if I would like to try my own box, I was ALL OVER that email.
I love cooking, I really do, but sometimes it gets so freaking boring. “What do you want for dinner?” “I don’t mind, you choose” “No, that doesn’t help, what do you fancy?” “Honestly babe, whatever you pick is fine” FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE DECIDE.
Thank you HelloFresh for deciding for me. While I love the cooking and the eating part, I despise the picking, listing, shopping and putting away part. Plus, I seem to have this issue where I cannot go to the supermarket for the things on my list. I get all kinds of distracted and end up spending way too much.
This may just be us, I’m hoping it’s not, but we often end up buying all this food, then, come 8.30pm when we actually get to sit down and eat, the last thing we want is what we’ve picked. So, we end up eating a takeaway in front of the TV, feeling disgusting.
I love a subscription box, usually the beauty kind, but food is right up there now!
The recipes are all laid out, you can choose which ones you want in your box, and everything comes pre-measured for how many people you’re cooking for. And I mean everything, the exact amount of stock, vinegar, sauce, peppercorns, everything. It’s a healthy, real food version of fast food. And it tastes SO much better.
Our first box came, and I was so excited to see what it looked like. Everything was in the one box, with plenty of ice packs (re-use or recycle) and each individual recipe was in it’s own brown paper bag. Take out the fridge stuff, cupboard stuff, or, if you’re really lazy, you could throw it all in the fridge in it’s bag if you like!
The recipes we had weren’t necessarily things I would choose to cook, purely because they would have sounded far too faffy for an evening meal, but HelloFresh made it bloody easy.
Sweet & Sour Pork with Bulgar Wheat, Chicken Piccata, Tuscan Pork Linguine & Chicken Korma were just some of the faves in this house. I have cooked plenty of Kormas in the past, but the HelloFresh one was actually restaurant quality, and I loved making the sauce from scratch, including the almonds – no jars of sauce here anymore, thank you very much!
I can honestly say I bloody love our HelloFresh subscription, so much so that we have carried on with our boxes, full price, after the first review box.
From choosing your box, Classic, Family or Veggie – we obviously chose the family box, which has meals for 2 adults and 2 kids, and we went with the 4 meal option, meaning Mon-Thursday was catered for without even thinking about it. The weekends are always a bit of a mash up in our house, so this works perfectly for us. Picking your meals, you can select the four (or three) meals out of that weeks options, and choosing your delivery slot, we went for a Monday between 9am and 6pm so it’s all here before I need to start cooking, it is all easy. It’s all done for you.
Everything is fresh, and great quality and the portion sizes are spot on. We’re a bit of a carb overload family so having the right portion size is a real eye opener, I’ve had a few people tell me they’ve actually lost weight without trying since signing up!
You can pause, and un-pause your weeks, whenever you like, as long as it’s before the Wednesday cut-off point, and you can stop for as many weeks as you like. We’ve got 3 boxes coming before we go away, and knowing I don’t need to think about dinner for the next three weeks is HEAVEN!! The only downside I can think of, and it’s not really a bad thing, is that you have to use the ingredients in that week, because they’re fresh and not pumped full of crap, they go off fast. So you can’t sneak in a takeaway if you’re ready to drop one evening, but there’s always the weekend!
Have you tried a HelloFresh box? If you’re new, you can get your first box for half price, so for a family of 4, with 4 meals, that’s just £27! Including delivery!
