Oh, destiny… They say that it’s something that has already been decided for you, so no matter what direction you go in, your life will end up the same way if that is what was meant to be. But don’t be afraid to admit that you beg to differ. We, as humans, hold so much power in our hands, and the incredible things that we are doing on a daily basis proves that. We’re not creatures that wait around and let the cards fall however they please. We’re creatures who work hard, juggle multiple things throughout life, go through dark tunnels to find the light, and get the things we want because we want them. So if you’ve realised that you’ve been coasting, or not even barely able to keep your head above water – that’s fine to admit, you shouldn’t be ashamed of that. But if you’re finally ready to take control of your own destiny instead of letting someone else do that for you, then here’s how.
Do you have a dream job that you’ve thought about doing since you were a child, and you always thought that it would happen, only to end up leaving school without the grades you had expected to get, and now you’re working a mundane nine to five job that isn’t making you happy? Well, you’d be surprised how many lives turn out this way. It can happen for a number of reasons, be it not staying focused enough at school, getting distracted and following a different path, or merely just fear holding you back. One thing you need to know though, is that it’s never too late. As cliche as that phrase is – it’s true. If you don’t have the qualifications you need to apply for the job you want – go back to college and get them. If you need work experience – ask as many companies as you can until someone gives you a chance. And if you need to fight the fear of failing – try doing things that scare you every day. Ask yourself how hard you’re willing to work for what you want. Build up a positive mental attitude towards things. – Whatever it may be, tell yourself that if this is something you really need to do in your life, then nothing is going to stop you, not even yourself.
We all have our own lives to deal with, along with responsibility through work or home life. We’re busy people who are always on the move. So on top of that, if you have to take medication for something, be it for an illness or injury, or just to keep things in order, then you will know about going to the doctors to get a prescription, and then taking it to the pharmacy, and then waiting in line until they have found your item. But if the treatment is something that you use every month, then the last thing you will want to do is waste time trying to book in an appointment with your doctor when really, it’s a waste of time because you don’t need one – all you need is your repeat prescription like every month. Well, fortunately, you are now able to request your repeat prescriptions online. That means no more beating around the bush for something that you need, and instead, gives you more time to spend however you please.
Let’s face it, life can get hard – sometimes really hard, and yet we’re told to keep pushing on and to pull ourselves together. But that’s easier said than done for someone who isn’t going through what you’re going through. It’s important to know that if you’re struggling – this doesn’t mean that you’re weak, it just means that you’re struggling. Mental health is no joke, and while a lot of people loosely mention being depressed, depression is a lot more than a bad day. It consumes you and drains all of the energy that you have inside yourself, and any little bit that you have left, it takes that too. It can make you feel like a walking zombie who no longer wants to go out with their friends or be social. Instead, you resort to locking yourself away at home and overthinking everything. The bottom line is, you should never be suffering in silence, so no matter what kind of way you’re feeling – talk to someone. Reach out for help. Speak to a doctor about what’s going on, and then they’ll be able to give you the necessary care you need.
They said that confidence is the most attractive thing that you can wear – but what if you don’t have any confidence? You see, it’s not something that you can get overnight, or buy, or steal – it’s something that takes a long time to build, and even once you have built it, it’s so awfully fragile that it can be broken into a million pieces, and if that happens, it’ll only be harder to rebuild the next time. There are so many things around that can affect your confidence: going through school, then college, then getting a job. Going out clubbing. Other boys and girls, men and women. And also, social media. There has never been a time as body-focused as in today’s society. All you have to do is take one look on Instagram to immediately compare yourself and then feel like crap. We know it’s wrong, and yet it’s impossible not to do. But doing this will only cause you to want to change yourself, and while that isn’t always a bad thing if it’s in a positive way, it can also be extremely destructive. So rather than spending so much time focusing on who’s wearing what, go and set yourself a task that’s outside of your comfort zone. The more you complete, the more your confidence will begin to grow naturally.
So what are you waiting for? The world is your oyster, right? So go find your pearl!
