Show Me The (Freelance) Money

Well, it’s official. I’m going back to the world of freelancing. I’m not sure if I’m crazy or very sane, but either way, I’m doing it!

I’ve been office based for the past 3 years and, while I’ve loved being able to go to work, do the said work, and come home, I’ve also been trying to balance the blogging side of things, get back into proper writing (whatever proper writing is) and generally make as much money as possible at the same time, and something had to give.

There’s probably a whole other blog post about my plans and whatnot, but in a nutshell I’ve handed my notice in at work, and, as of the 12th March 2020 I will be working for myself again.

My main gig will be PA & Admin work, it’s what I’m good at, getting people & inboxes organised, ticking off a giant to do list and generally cracking the whip to get things running like a well oiled machine but I will also be diving back into paid blogging as much as I can. I love writing, it’s my therapy (even if no one else wants to read it!) so if I can make some extra cash doing something I find relaxing, then I am going to do just that.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that I will never be a world famous writer, and that’s ok (it’s not, but I’m trying) but I do still have a voice and a platform, so I’m going to use it in a way that works for me. I’m bored of trying to reach targets, hit certain numbers and keeping up with the Joneses, they can do them and I’ll do me. It’s the only person I know how to be! I’ve got lots of ideas in my notebooks and I’m planning on using sites like Get Blogged for as much work as possible.

I’m looking forward to getting stuck in properly, at the moment I’m balancing everything, still working 3 days a week & trying to cram in 5 days of freelance work into two. I don’t plan to be working a full 5 days a week, what’s the point in being freelance if you can’t choose your own days and hours, but I will be flexible. With the amount of tech available to us now, there’s no excuse to be stuck at a desk 9-5 five days a week, which is another reason I had to leave the office!

In my idea world, I will work Mon-Thur and have Fridays to myself. I’m going to stick to school hours (for now) because my little darlings will always come first, but I am really looking forward to being able to go an assembly or a football game that pops up last minute – we’re in the final few months of junior school for my youngest, come September, I won’t really be needed so I’m making the most of it while I can!

I’m really excited to get going with this new freelance me, I’m definitely nervous, I like to do things well, so I put a lot of pressure on myself to succeed, but, touch wood, it’s completely the right decision!

Plus, think of the stationery!
