A few months ago I was offered the chance to go and see Shrek the Musical, and I *jumped* at the chance! Everyone in this house loves the films, and I knew Little Miss would really enjoy seeing it on the stage.
We went along on Monday evening and we were seriously not disappointed. From the very start, the show pulled us in. The giant green stage turned into two huge story books, where a young Fiona and Shrek appeared (to a massive “ahhhh” from the audience!) We were told the very beginning of the story, Shrek was sent away by his parents to live his life, and how Fiona was sent to the tower.
The cast were amazing, Amanda Holden played Fiona really well, we almost forgot that Shrek wasn’t a real ogre, but the star of the show for me was Lord Farquaad. Nigel Harman must deserve some sort of award for his character, I have never laughed at a stage show as much as I did that night! For those of you who have seen the first film, you will remember that Lord Farquaad is short, Nigel Harman isn’t, so he spent the entire show on his knees with some very funny “legs”
There are plenty of jokes for the children and plenty for the adults so this show is a must for families! The show doesn’t copy the film entirely, but you know you are watching the same thing, with plenty of new songs, and a fantastic rendition of “I’m a believer” at the end, which had everyone up and singing along!
An absolutely brilliant show, Little Miss and I really enjoyed it, and I would even go again!
Shrek is on at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London. Go see!!
